Events for women are frequently held throughout the world. These are within the corporate, sporting, parenting, household, lifestyle, health and beauty and other arenas, making them versatile and somewhat complex. Women’s events are really special, as women tend to gravitate towards compassionate, caring, nurturing initiatives; responding particularly well to those in need. Within relationships, women are usually considered to be the carers; affectionate and soft.
When trying to raise funds through event initiatives aimed at women, it is important to remember that women respond well when their caring nature is taken into account. Here are some event ideas that are aimed particularly at the tastes, styles and instincts of women:
- Invite a woman that has survived a terrible ordeal (such as domestic violence, rape, the loss of a child, etc…) to share her story with a group of women. The point would not be to horrify or frighten the guests or embarrass the speaker, but to prove the inner strength of women and the value of their fighting spirit. Charge an entry fee and sell the life story of your guest speaker in book form (if available) or as a transcript of her presentation.
- Host a once-off book club that deals with a particularly relevant novel. It can be written by an amazing female author or it can be the story of an outstanding woman. Request voluntary donations, sell the book at the event and make food and beverages available at a cost.
- Get a great deal on good wines and then sell them at a profit. Donate all of the proceeds to a worthy organisation or individual that fights for the rights and protection of women. This event will need to have more substance to it than simply the buying and selling of wine, so consider organising it as a wine tasting or a relaxed picnic.
- Invite your friends and colleagues around to your house to inform them of a local women’s charity. Invite a guest speaker that represents the women’s organisation to tell the guests about their aims, goals and needs. Then, enjoy an evening of friendship, good food and fabulous wine so that it is not only about fundraising.
- Host a class (yoga, belly dancing, line dancing, jewellery making, etc…) and request that each attendee pays a nominal entrance fee. They should understand that the cost of attending is to be donated to a certain organisation, and that the aim of the event is to relax and have fun while helping others.
- Arrange a fun run, walk or cycle for women and their daughters. Sponsors and donors should be informed of the event as part of the marketing strategy and the participants’ entry fee should be donated. This also promotes a healthy lifestyle for young and old alike.
- Organise a tour of a local women’s shelter or prison, allowing your guests to interact with abused, injured or convicted women. As they speak to ladies of a similar demographic to themselves, it will become very clear how urgent the need for funding and physical help is and how instrumental they can be (as individuals and groups) in the rehabilitation of such women.
