The Western Cape of South Africa is a beautiful place, both for tourists and for those that have made it their home. In addition, this country is joining the rest of the world in its increasing awareness of the urgent need to ensure a greener way of living if we are to preserve the natural beauty and resources available to us. As such, the Western Cape is one of the many hosts of regular green events. These are designed to raise awareness, showcase new initiatives and encourage a consciousness and sense of personal responsibility in those who visit these events.
Some of the annual events in the Western Cape that are focussed on the environment and the care thereof include:
The Green Expo
The Green Expo takes place in the heart of the Mother City, as Cape Town is affectionately known, at the beautiful Cape Town International Convention Centre. It is aimed at showcasing environmentally friendly services and products, and promises visitors a fascinating peek into technology and green developments. A wide variety of exhibitors will attend. Products and services will range from transportation, fuels, organic products and water-saving to tourism, fashion and children’s products. Added features include an awards ceremony and cocktail party. This event is free of charge to attend, and is a fabulous opportunity to learn and network.
Exhibitors will come from all sectors, including:

- Education
- Art, Culture and Lifestyles
- Health and Wellness
The combination of educational workshops and guest speakers make this a very special event.
The Hermanus Flower and Eco Fair
This delightful fair is hosted by the Fernkloof Nature Reserve and the Hermanus Botanical Society, while a significant contribution is also made by Whale Coast Conservation. The treasured fynbos of the region must be preserved, and there will be considerable focus on the important initiatives involving just this. This event is great for the entire family, and will include tea and picnics on the sprawling lawns and gardens, walks through the mountain and a variety of gorgeous plants to buy for your home. Stunning flower displays will awe young and old alike. Talks and demonstrations make this event interactive and relevant to all. Younger visitors will not have a shortage of things to do and see as there will be fun activities designed especially for them. For more information, call +27 (0)28 312 4072.
