Party Games for Office Dos

Office party games are important, not only to add a sense of fun and excitement to your affair, but also to help your staff members to relax and enjoy themselves while interacting with others. This is a vital skill within the workplace, and should be cultivated and encouraged. Games are also a good way of passing the time at an office party without the tedium of a host of formal speeches. Here are some ideas for office games that will suit almost any corporate environment:

Humorous Employee Awards
A funny way to involve everyone, while sneakily forcing them to get to know one another better, is to have a funny awards ceremony. In this you will award employees for their skills and talents in areas that are quite out of the ordinary. You may award silly prizes (such as gimmicky stationery or kitchen condiments), or just print out personalised certificates for them. Some of the awards may include things like:

  • Most effective procrastinator
  • Never at their desk
  • Always on Facebook
  • The master of losing paperwork
  • Most deserving of a raise
  • Most smoke breaks in one day
  • Most likely to replace the loo paper
  • Selective hearing champion

Be sure to prepare the winners of these awards ahead of time so that they are not overly surprised or embarrassed and so that they can prepare a funny retort in their speeches. The objective is not to belittle or mock anyone.

Musical General Knowledge Quiz (Noot vir Noot style)
Have fun identifying different artists, songs, or adverts based on a short excerpt of music or clues that are read out. Put your employees into groups of approximately 5 people and get them to work together. You may choose your own categories, or get some fun ideas from the following suggestions:

  • Music from 1980’s series (e.g. Knight Rider, The A Team or Golden Girls)
  • Guess which ad the music comes from
  • Music from the 60’s or 80’s
  • Theme tunes from movies (e.g. “It Must Have Been Love” by Roxette, in Pretty Woman)

A Silly Talent Show
If you have a working environment that is conducive to public displays (that is, one in which your employees feel comfortable with one another), host a unique talent show with a difference. Encourage each person to prepare an individual or group performance to perform in front of an audience. These can be genuine performances, or slapstick takes on the real deal; all in the name of fun.

When playing games within a work environment, it is vital that you do not humiliate any of your staff members and that the overall theme and atmosphere is not derogatory or offensive to the different religions, languages and / or cultures within the office.
